check engine light wiring missing
1987 Cherokee Laredo 4.0 I6
Today i was gonna check for stored error codes but I couldn't get my check engine light to come on. Upon tearing apart the dash and lots of searching. I Found that the wires on the gage harness were missing. I found a wiring diagram for an 88 cherokee and it says that spaces b13 and b14 are the check engine light wires. Those are there. But don't go to the position that the check engine light is. Instead it goes to a spot that says "lock". The position on the cluster that says check engine goes to a spot on the harness that has no wires. I don't know if anyone understands what I am saying or not. But does anyone has any ideas or a wiring diagram that can help me run new wires or something?

this will help I hope,90 and older xjs do not have check engine lights like you are use to,they also do not store codes or use them, the renix system is before this started, the check engine light on renix motors is just a timer to tell you it is time to change your 02 sensor,it counts miles and lights up at 82,500 miles. Then it needs to be replaced with a new timer and reset,I would be willing to bet not many were ever replaced.

thanks
That is helpful. Saves me a lot of time monkeying with it. If it doesn't do anything helpful, then I don't care if the wires are missing, lol. I guess I will just have to get out the multimeter and start testing manually.
