Default Check Engine Light :( :( :(

So my engine light came on a few days ago. Reset the battery and it came back on today. Ran the codes and I'm getting nothing but cylinder misfires. I hear this is common in late model XJ's. I replaced all the spark plugs (they were pretty bad) but the light still comes back on. Any advice would be awesome. Thanks!

Do you have coil packs or a distributor?

And what are the exact codes? Is it the same cyl misfiring?

Good question, I'm not exactly sure. How do I find that out?

The codes will tell you. Cyl 1 misfire, cyl 2 misfire, etc.

Re-read the codes, post the exact codes thrown.

a 99 should still have a good old distributor, did you replace your plug wires too?

i forget the code numbers, they ran them at autozone and I didnt have a pen to write them down - but they were cylinder misfires 1, 2 and 3. I didn't replace the plug wires. Is that hard to do being how the 4.0 has a long "block" with the plugs attached to it?

You don't have plug wires. You have coil packs.

Why does your info state you have a 99 Cherokee? You may wanna update that...

yeah that was my old XJ, literally just got this 2001 a few weeks ago. So since I have coil packs, would you recommend I replace that? I called Firestone on base (Ft. Hood) and they said it could be a number of things - basically forcing me to pay them 75 bills just to look at it. Not sure I want to do this quite yet.

Gp to any parts store, ask them to read your codes. Then report back with the codes they give you.

Should be something like P0441.
