Check Engine DTC Codes: P0700 & P1687
2000 Cherokee Limited, Aw4 trans., 231J transfer case with 4:1 kit. 4 Low, slow crawl, 15-20 degree slope, rocky terrain (slight bouncing) for about 1 min. Check engine light comes on. Scanner tells me it’s PCM P0700 “EATX Ctrller DTC Present” and P1687 “No Cluster BUS Message”. Code 0700 is a general fault code for transmission and or communication between transmission and PCM, which (I suspect) is the reason for the simultaneous P1687 “No Cluster BUS Message”. I’m going to start with grounds, wiring and connectors, drain and refill transmission fluid (it’s time anyway) and then on to the TCM itself. I had zero issues with drivability afterwards. Transmission shifted flawlessly so I’m suspecting corroded connections, wiring or a TCM leaving the chat. As to the P1687 “No Cluster BUS” Message, I’m well aware of the Cherokee “NO BUS” issues and will address that if needed but I suspect it’s related to the TCM at this time. Anyone here have any thing to add on my diagnosis of both codes being related and not separate issues? TIA.
