Default 2000 Jeep Check Engine light on!! and can't scan codes...

Hi, I have a 2000 Jeep Cherokee and the check engine light came on this morning. I took it to Autozone to have the code scanned and when they do the scan it shows "No Bus" on the odometer and it will not pull any codes. I took it to another Autozone and the same thing happened. I only get the "no bus" when you try to read a code. Other wise it drives and fine and all the gages work. I checked the voltage at the scanner plug and everything appears to be good. Not sure what to do next?? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

OMG-This JUST happened to me (the non-communication with the scanner and PCM), TODAY!

I hope you get an answer because I need one too.

You have an open to the DLC. Pull the wiring diagram and start checking for opens. Modules communicate on a CAN-BUS network. When you connect a scanner or code reader the network treats it as another module. If there's an open in the network the scanner will give you that. Check to see if one of the pins backed into the connector first. Its common if the DLC has been used often

Problem fixed... Check engine light the result of a bad gasket on the fuel pump in the gas tank. I replaced the gasket and the check engine light is gone. Thanks for the help!

That should set an evap leak code, not a "no buss" message.
