changing tranny fluid...

Default changing tranny fluid...

so after a lot of searching around, between change and dont change the tranny fluid i decided to go ahead because my fluid smelt burnt, pretty bad too.
well yesterday i bought valvoline dex merc and got to it. drained the pan and holy s*** was that stuff BLACK. well i got really scared and just filled it up and it shifts so smooth now. in the process of a complete change of fluid and i was wondering when is the next time i need to drain? was gonna do it today but i saw wait 2 - 3 days and also 2 weeks. so any help will be awesome

I usually give it two tank fulls (~500 miles) between changes to give the trans time to adjust to the new fluid.

Mine started out black and very burned and is now a nice red. Took awhile to get it to that point but it's worth it.

Haha very true. And also, when should i change the filter? After i get the fluid nice and red?

Eh, whenever is fine.

Honestly it's just a screen so changing it probably won't do much. I changed mine just because I had the pan off but after seeing what it actually looks like I wouldn't have bothered otherwise.
