Default Help! My xj starts strange

When i start my xj, it starts but its a very low start. I have to hold the key untill it starts to idle normally. If i dont, it dies. I heard it could be the IAC valve. Could it be anything else?

Well you heard right. Start with cleaning the IAC and go from there.

Cause there could be 50 different things causing that.

Yep start with cleaning the iac but I'd also suggest starting it with the iac removed as I had a similar problem, I cleaned the iac didn't help, removed the iac it ran great, alittle high but not bad, so if it runs with no iac but doesn't with it even after cleaning then is buy a new one,

It's easier to disconnect everything (wires, throttle cables, air tube) and remove the entire throttle body. There are four ten mm screws holding it in. If you're careful, the gasket should stay intact. This allows you to clean the throttle body as well. Be careful, the torx screws that hold in the IAC can strip easily.

That bottom screw can be a real pain. Some get it, some don't. What you can do though is take the throttle body off and you'll have plenty of room then. IMO that is actually easier and more beneficial. Then you can clean up the TB while your at it.
