Update, this has been slow to finish with work and weather. My head is not cracked. I replaced the gasket and I'm glad, she's old and needed it. I did pop the fuel rail while torquing the manifold bolts, so another new part I finished everything and she would'n't start, it was one click. I went and tested the starter and everything was good. While testing the starter, my car then went to many clicks. The battery is new, I replaced the starter (and solenoid) . Tried to start her and got nothing, so I have gone over all my grounds and took apart the battery connections and cleaned everything. She started but rev'd really high and loud so I turned it off, there was smoke around the manifolds and smelled like rubber. I think my belt was too tight so I loosened it up and started her again. She starts right up but stays in the really high reving and the whole car is involved. It's sounds like it wants to get to idle but cannot. The exhaust manifold gets hot very quickly and there is smoke, but not the rubber anymore. Not sure what to look at now?

You might not have the intake manifold sitting correctly or the gasket is damaged and it's sucking in air. Or you missed reconnecting one of the vacuum lines.

Agreed, that intake manifold can be tricky to seat properly, and if it is not the engine will certainly start climbing RPM once started.

I changed out the IAC which has stopped the "rolling" the engine was doing. She is still climbing in RPMs, so now I'll take out the intake and try again.. Thanks
