Default Changed the differential fluid via a syringe

really don't want to mess the gasket at the freezing temperature. So I just used a syringe to suck out the old fluid and refill with fresh 80w90 gear oil.
I wonder if anybody used the similar band aid method, any adverse effects in the long term?

Thanks.

Seems like a lot of work that could be avoided by buying a 6 dollar heat lamp at walmart.

RTV is easy to use!!!

I did mine last week and it was kinda cold. I heated the RTV aluminum tube up with a blowdrier before it came out and it was nice and smooth.

You also won't be able to clean off the residue on the gears with breakcleaner.
But, its better than what most people do, which is nothing.

I usually alternate between both methods. I figure pulling it out versus removing the cover won't hurt every other time. Honestly, it's much better than the method most people use, and that method is to ignore the differential fluid altogether.

I pulled my cover off this last weekend its really simple to do and at 28 degrees the RTV still came out smooth but i guess that other method would work

RTV and Lubelockers both do the same job well so neither can suck

If you take your rig to a dealership for differential lube drain/fill, 9 out of 10 times they will just suck it out and pour new fluid in. It'll be just fine.

Your fine.

Personally I want to take a look at the internals to look for changes in wear patterns or discoloring or any signs of heat stress. But I have an EZ-Locker, so I want to know if something is coming apart before it does.

lubelocker= no mess, no scraping surfaces clean and it will cost as much as a few tubes of rtv in the end
