Well after seeing that the Stealership wants $90 plus for this ABS bracket that is prone to cracking and snapping. I decided to make my own....that will hold up and be the last one this Jeep will ever need!

Still not quite done with the fabbing...but hopefully have it done and painted and installed by Sunday.

Junk ABS bracket

The AC duct that goes above the bracket.

I ran out of daylight and need to round off some corners and see if I need to brace the legs....it seems pretty stiff without it...but I will check and then paint and reinstall. I plan to put wood inserts in the square tubes and epoxy them in place...so that the screws from the center console box will screw into them.

I should have made some patterns and made a few more...huh?

This is an ancient thread, I realize, but I have to ask: how did this work out, and would you be willing to fabricate another and sell it if it went well? I hate to spend that $99 on something that's going to snap again, but don't have the skill to fabricate my own.

Mine was broken into about 7 pieces when I first got my XJ. After seeing the price for a new one, I just glued the puzzle back together with some high strength epoxy. Not ideal but it has worked so far, provided no one hits the console too hard.

A metal fabbed part would be awesome...

I did the same. I mixed some fiberglas flox into the epoxy as I was mixing it, and roughed up the plastic a lot to add grip for the epoxy. Mine has held up so far.

My new welder is coming this week and this will be my first project.

When I did my heater core this summer, I found mine broken into a bunch of changes. I knew it was broken, I remember when it broke but wasnt sure what happened. I knew something broke and I knew the console was loose, but other than that I had no idea.

Well, I used some high strength epoxy stuff on mine too when I did the heater core, but THE SECOND I put my arm on it (the console is an armrest, right) it broke again. So I thought about doing a metal one too. Cool to see someone else has done it already.

Offer stands -- I can't weld (that needs to be remedied, but I'm a software guy in recovery...), but I would happily pay for a metal bracket for my '99 Cherokee.

Rip Off
So this also happened at some point to the console in my 2000 XJ. It's not super annoying but annoying enough for me to want to do something about it. So today I unscrewed the CD cradle off and discovered that, indeed, the bracket was broken into about six pieces. It's an unbelievably poor design to say the least. I'm surprised there aren't any aftermarket replacements for this. I think someone with some know how could make good money off of this.

As of now, the only thing I could find online is to order an OEM replacement that's $106

If anyone has another way of fixing this (besides being handy with a welder LOL) let me know!

edit. found a cheaper OEM bracket. $76.00. Still too expensive to me. I'm going to just super glue the shi_ out of it.
