CEL light and no code
I have a 01 xj with 97k. I just replaced my fuel pump with a bosch pump and everything seemed fine. Started the Jeep up today and now I have a CEL light. This is not my DD so I don't get to play with it much.
I ran the self test with no codes. I cleaned the TPS sensor just because.
I have an appointment tue for a new exhaust. It's currently open headers (had to cut the front pipe when I replaced the RMS) and I am having a new exhaust put in.
Is it possible the CEL is from the open exhaust and lack of back pressure? Once I get the exhaust on I will have the scan tool put on it to test at AZ.

1. You cannot retrieve codes on a 2001 XJ with the odometer test. All it does is a self test of gauges, etc. You must use either a code reader or a scan tool for anything past mid-1997.
2. Cutting your exhaust absolutely will trigger a check engine light and code. Get that new exhaust, reset the codes and you will likely be fine.

Thanks. I didn't know that 01 wouldn't read codes. I'll need to buy a scan tool then. All 02 sensors are installed. Exhaust was cut at the front pipe. It will be new from front pipe back with new muffler and high flow cat.
I'll install and reset. Thanks for the help.

This was one of the best investments that I made. Using free tools on my phone (I use Torque personally), you can retrieve the code and simply google it for more info;
BAFX Products (TM) - PIC18F2480 Bluetooth OBD2 scan tool - For check engine light and other diagnostics - Android compatible : Amazon.com : Automotive
On newer cars with better sensors, you can get some real street data-logging done which is really cool too.
Or just go to Autozone and have it done for free, but I like to leave mine in the car so I have it whenever I need it.

If you have a check engine light, retrieve the codes and post the EXACT codes (not a description) here for comment.
