I purchased a CCV valve and hose kit from ebay and started installing today. My question is I can't seem to get the old ones out of the valve cover? I see the new ones have keys that are oriented so that it should line up with slots in the valve cover, but I can't seem to get it out. I twisted, turned, pried and looked for slots, but I can't get it out. Really don't want to damage the old ones if they aren't made like the new ones. Am I missing something? BTW it's a 94 cherokee country 4.0/auto.

Quite possible you have the wrong type.
There are two different styles.

The early style- the one in your picture. That is a twist install.

Newer style- Grommet-type that is pressed in.

If you are replacing the orifice on a 94...you need the newer style.

I have two XJ's
the 91 uses the twist-type
and
My 94 uses the grommet-type.

I got mine at AutoZone.
Its on a HELP! card from Dorman

Part # 47057
They call it a PCV ELBOW (Dodge/Jeep)

As for the grommet number...cannot help you there as I do not have it.

To get the old one out:
REAL strong upward pull with a bit of a twist.
If the grommet is hard and brittle- use a utility knife to cut it out...and replace it.

I'll try this tomorrow. I'm thinking the ones I have are the grommet type, because while trying to look for slots on the valve cover, I couldn't see any. Thanks

The old rubber grommets get super hard I had to pry mine out with a large screwdriver and damaged both the grommet and orifice I would get new grommets too it makes it easier putting it back together. Plus you get a tite seal so oil dont blow all over the valve cover.

I found O'reilly's actually has everything needed.

Rear Valve-47057
Front Valve-47079
Grommet- 42344

I'm assuming grommets are the same for the front and rear?
