I work in a suface coal mine, and the radio we have found to hold up the best for the least cash is the Uniden pro 510. Small easy to mount compatable with cobra mics. For a few dollers more you can take it to a good cb shop and have it "tuned up" and talk like a super trucker without burning out your finals.

I also have had a 2-meter radio in my Jeeps in the past...

I have NEVER heard any chatter on 2-meters that was wheeling related. Whether it was simplex or on the repeaters local to the parks.

A couple of things to remember...

A. Some organized runs and clubs require that you have a working CB installed in your Jeep to participate.

B. Some runs and clubs are also banning long whips aka 6 foot or longer as to prevent the potential of damage to jeeps and bystanders.

I had a Wilson 1000 mounted right in the middle of my XJ roof. I had the optional 81 inch whip on it. I took a big drop off to one side and my Jeep really slammed down.. The tip of the whip came down, smacked the rear quarter window and put a crack in it. So there is a danger running longer antennas on your Jeep.

I have an inexspensive Cobra that I'm going to install hopefully this weekend. I'm picking up a Gutter mount Antenna in the morning. Plan on mounting the CB overhead between the visors.
I'll post pics.
