Keep in mind that CB's are worthless unless someone you know also has a CB, and they're within a few miles of you.

cobras are good if he has any for a decent price but there are plenty of other nice ones out there. also when you get the coax cable make sure its in increments of 3 so it has to be either 3 6 9 12 15 18 feet ect to work best.

Look for a decent cobra 25,29 or a uniden 68,78. The increments of 3 are not true. All you need for coax length is enough to get from point A to point B. I've been dealing in cb's and ham radios for 25 yrs. If you need any help pm me.

Even if its not Cobra you can still make the most out of it with proper cable and antenna set up...

X2. I got started in electronics in 1970 and worked on a lot of CBs over the years (amongst other things). I drifted away from it about 8-10 yrs ago but I still have my books, manuals, equipment, and a lot of old radios still lying around in my back room.

More important than your coax length is the condition of the coax and the connectors. Many times, problems with 'radios' can be traced to bad connectors or damaged coax. Another thing or two, if you run dual antennas make sure they are the same length and the legs of the twin coax are the same length and make sure you've got good power to your radio and especially good grounds to your radio and your antenna(s).

Cobras are good. I always liked the 29LTDs. Midlands are good. Presidents were pretty good radios, too.

ive never ever seen a "bad" cobra, just make sure your coax cable length is in increments of 3 so either 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, ect, im not sure why it makes it better but thats just the way it is

The 23 channel radios are good. Just make sure you and your friends are on the same channel. As far as coax goes you only need enough to get from point A to point B.

The 3ft increment is a myth. If your antenna is tuned for 50 ohms and your coax is 50 ohms length doesnt matter. If trimming the coax helps to adjust your swr, then your antenna isnt tuned correctly.
