Case of the missing piston

Earlier in the year I made a thread of my jeep breaking down and now I got a chance to get the head pulled off and I found this and I'm trying to go over in my head what I should do find a block and stroke it or go back to stock what to do that is the question.

It broke apart and is in the oil pan. To beat it all it was running when I took it apart granted not very well but still kicking on five cylinders lol

If it only gouged the cylinder wall you can have the block sleeved and install a new piston. You can do just one hole or as many as you want.

As long as the block is useable i say bore it 4.2 crank and rods, have the head cleaned, 3angle valve job, clean the ports up, put some manifolds on, an bigger t.b. add fuel and have fun

If you plan to rebuild it you might as well stroke it. The stroker parts are mostly the same price. as they are stock parts as well. The small extra cost is worth the horsepower and torque. It's what I plan to do to my tired 4liter with 305k

V8! That's what I'm doing when my 4.0 gives the ghost... or when I get the funds. And YES a V8 can be done on the same budget as a well built stroker and you will actually get slightly better mpg with more power to boot.
And I know someone is gonna argue my point, but Lord knows I have put much research into this decision, and there are many v8 swap threads that prove it can be done.

Hate it when that happens.
Once (Chevy) it ruined the block, once (International), it didn't. Then I discovered @@@@@-oil! I put a 350 in my Jag because the 6 that was in it was ****. Wouldn't even think of changing the 4.0. Might even put my 265K 4.0 into another body, it literally took apart the first one. (No rust, just disintegrating).
On the chevy I removed the wrist pin & rod remnants from the crank, loosened the rockers for #3 and drove almost 100 miles home on 5 cyls.
