That is what I have done. A place about 15 minutes from me prices sheet very reasonable and will cut it to most any size at no extra cost. I will likely try using pop rivets to do the job since I do not have a welder. I know a few people with one however, so if my plan fails I will ask them to tack my pieces in.

Welds don't have to look pretty to work. You should see some of mine, lol. Some days I spend more time grinding than welding.
