Default Can't seem to figure out my "shimmy"

95 xj with new hub assemblies, ball joints, front axle joints, and new tires. Alignment is good. The TRs seem fine, no movement in or out of sockets, brand new track bar, no movement at axle or frame mounts. CA bushings seem tight, a little dry rot cracking, but tight. I know my gear box is a little worn, but I don't think that could be contributing. Shimmy appears at 40 then seems to disappear. Appears back at 75. I need some input. all the other threads haven't helped me.

Steering wheel shimmy? slight vibration? My cause was the tires were out of balance, knobbies don't wear evenly.

So if three tires were brand new, and one wasn't, but had basically new tread, maybe 90%?? And the older tire was on the front along With a brand new one... that could be the cause?? I've had the shimmy and wobble for the two years I've owned the jeep.

I had shimmy twice, once it was the tires out of balance, which caused a slight shimmy, next it was the wheels out of balance which caused a little more shimmy, at exactly 55-65

What condition are your wheels in? Try putting the rear rims on the front and see if there is any change. If no change I guess you can eliminate tires or wheels.

either a tire out of balance , out of round tire or tire with sliped belt. If slipped belt it was done during manufacture. need to rotate to back.

rotate front to rear and see if it goes away. You might move one at a time.shimmy at 40 and 70 mph is a common speed where a out of round or slip belt problem shows up.If shimmy is in steering wheel it is on the front, if whole vehicle shakes look at the rear. what size and brand tires?

Cooper Discoverer STTs 31x10.5R15 shocks are old and are BDS from when lift is installed. I noticed tonight it was more at 45-50 then at 75. How can I tell if there is a bad belt or out of round tire?

back in the days working at tire store I would mount it on the spin balancer and just spin it and see if it was true or not. coopers are decent tires. I would take it back to tire store. Can you feel it more in the seat or more in the just the steering wheel.

Steering wheel, I'll look over and everything is shaking. The passenger seat will shake back and forth. When there's a passenger in the jeep, the shimmy is less noticeable in the wheel also.

If the tire store will work with you let them check the tires again. If you want you could try rotating them yourself to see if it changes . If you can get it on a hoist you could run it in gear with the tires off the ground to see if out of round.

Ha, my passenger seat shook too, Jeep is now fixed and rides smooth and passenger seat still moves a little when I'm driving so maybe it's just a Jeep thing.
