Unhappy Cant quite pin down sound

2000 XJ Sport with 180k miles. I started getting this rhythmic ticking/knocking sound. It gets louder and more rapid when throttled and does not go away when warmed up. Oil pressure is good. Torque converter bolts are tight. Not sure what exactly it could be.

Noise

Thanks y'all

Use a mechanics stethoscope to probe around the engine and accessories to isolate the location of the ticking. You can also use a long blade screwdriver by touching the tip to the engine and place the handle to your ear. Be careful of moving parts.

Check the exhaust manifold (each tube), injectors, side of the head by intake and exhaust valves, other side by the lifters, valve cover (over each cyl) and anyplace else you can reach safely. You can also remove the serpentine belt and run for a few minutes to eliminate the noise from the accessories.

Maybe too obvious a question but - any check engine codes? I had a faulty IAC sensor or two that plagued me and until I got a decent one and then the engine was acting more normal.
