heat and some "gentle" hitting... and/or heat followed very quickly by some cold water and more persuading... or patience and a lot more PB... and more persuasion...

a simple MAP or propane torch does wonders. I would just melt the filter seal off because thats probably whats holding it on, Oil the seal next time.

I use this now:

Depending on the type of oil filter Ive managed to stick a screw driver through them and use leverage to get it out. Id only do it as a last resort though since it makes a huge mess. Next time you put an oil filter on it make sure you put oil on the gasket so it doesnt stick.

I drove a screw driver through the filter. Then I used a monkey wrench on the adapter. I then put the new filter on without that darn adapter.... no more leaks.

well i managed to get it off by standing on the adapter and using big channel locks to spin the filter off, whoever put that filter on must have thought thats what was leaking and tightened it to the point that the seal actually mushroomed. thanks for all the advice guys! but now i have a new problem, now i have a bottom end knock! i put 5 - 30 oil in there, it has 243xxx miles, should i use a heavier oil?

For anyone else searching around here with a similar problem, I have heard some people use a razor blade to break the gasket enough to release the seal.

This brings me to ask ... What is the point in leaving the filter on when taking the adapter off? I didn't see the point when I was doing mine.

It's all 30 weight when it warms up. whether its 5W or 10W-30.

You may have an oil pressure or bearing problem.

And this is why you don't use a filter wrench to tighten the filter, and apply a thin coat of oil on the Oring before installing the filter.

I remember with my last heap that i add a thick oil "additive", not really an additive but really thick oil, that i got from the parts store that is for high mileage motors. It quited down that motor alot. I think it was mystery oil or something
