Try this. Unplug the CPS. Put a voltmeter set on AC Volts connected to each wire in the CPSs harness. Have someone crank over the Jeep and post up your readings.

Well that might just be it. Im only getting 3.4 Volts coming in off the ECU at the harness to the CPS. Ground is good, but the voltage is low - should it be 5V im assuming. Gonna do further testing to see what wire... where.. and replace as necessary!

Not sure you understood correctly. Unplug the CPS. Set your meter to AC volts. Probe each of the two wires in the CPS side of the connector so you can read it's signal in AC volts while cranking the engine over.

Oh, I should mention - the AC test is for the CKP, not the CPS, as far as I believe. the CKP checks out ok, and is also brand new. It wont start at all if that thing is gone!

Im starting to think maybe timing chain or something is completely out of wack? But im guessing this cam sensor should be 5V too. Its got to be part of the problem.

Oh, I should also mention - the engine starts, then if i DISCONNECT the cam sensor wire, it still runs, and has the same symptoms as before disconnecting. This is also AFTER i replaced it with an old test distributor. Hmm..

The AC test is for the Crankshaft Positon Sensor on the rear of the engine.

Renix will always run with the sync generator failed. It has nothing to do with ignition. It's only for firing the injectors sequentially. If it fails, the injectors are batch fired.

I havent had a chance to test yet -weather has been really nasty... just a thought ... even though the crank sensor is relatively new, a few months old at best.. I heard its possible to not position it correctly and as a result it may get damaged/fail?

Kinda hard to position it incorrectly using the shouldered bolts that are used to mount it. What is the AC output voltage of the CPS, unplugged, probing the sensor side, while cranking? There are some real POS replacement CPSs out there.

So it is solved. The wiring harness to the Crank sensor was toast - Its been resting on the fuel rail and the insulation melted off, and grounded to the rail. Spliced in a new wire. Good to go!
