Default Can someone break these Scanner codes down for me?

I scanned the jeep today and this is what I came back with

P0118- engine coolant temp sensor (1 circuit high )
/\ My gauge doesnt work on the cluster neither, so Im guessing the CTS died?

P0700- Trans control system

P0705- Trans range sensor A circuit ( PRNDL Input )
/\ Guessing that means park, reverse, neutral, drive, low inputs?

Thanks!

after more and more loking around, I see the 705 code is the NSS. Maybe that could throw the 700 code too.

Most transmission shifting issues / codes are caused by a malfunctioning Throttle Position Sensor. The TPS works together with the coolant temp sensor however.

Test the CTS first with a multimeter. Should read less than 100ohms at operating temperature. If it reads zero you have a short. If it reads infinity you have a broken wire, or the sensor is bad. I would do this test first.

If it tests out ok (i think it will not), test the TPS. There are many guides on this so search.

That should fix your codes.

rear is for the gauges only
front is for the engine

although on your 97 you should only have the front one for both

Cool thanks. Would that cause gauge issues ( mine always reads cold) and could that cause the teams codes too? Or that is the NSS switch.

the 705 code is the neutral safety switch, it most likely needs to be cleaned (very common)

and yes, your sensor controls both the engine and the gauges. test/replace

break it off I guess lol. Its plastic on the back, so it should come off pretty easily. Also, I can break off the compression prong thingys too.

hey guys,
Well funny this is for sure, I replaced the CTS in the front of the motor ( I only have one ) by the thermostat. And the CEL went off. I havent scanned it to see if it was still throwing that 0700 codes or not yet. But gauge works and CEL is off. haha. Weird.

Hey just curious Natty, did you have any shifting concerns with those trans codes. My 98 just started dropping out of overdrive on the highway and set the p0700 and the p0705. So i figure it would be the trans range sensor, it was replaced about a year ago for a reverse light concern by previous owner.
Dukie you obviously know your stuff do you think my problem could be simply needing to clean or adjust the trans range sensor? If so how?
Thanks for any help guys. Need to get this fixed asap, super tight budget and the 13mpgs from riding around in D3 is killing my wallet.

ok i just crawled underneath and the nut on the trans range sensor had backed off and was loose, apparently it wasnt torqued right when the p.o .replaced it last year. Drove it up and down the road real quick in o/d and so far so good, no light and stayed in overdrive. Time will tell if thats all it was, fingers crossed.
