Can I test a CPS without bolting to trans?

Default Can I test a CPS without bolting to trans?
I just grabbed a junkyard CPS and before I go through trouble of unbolted mine and attaching this one , can I just plug it in and let it dangle to test ? Thanks

If the JY one turns out to be good are you gonna keep it ? What if that go's bad in 3-6 months ?
