Default Can I fix my driver seat this way?

99 Jeep Cherokee sport with a badly broken driver seat

The frame of the driver seat is trashed. Will this work as a fix : remove passenger seat, remove seat back and seat cushion leaving just the frame, use the frame to replace the broken driver seat frame, maybe I would need to turn the frame around 180 degrees for this to work.

I'm really not sure and would prefer not to do all this only to find it won't work. Has anyone tried this? Any opinions on this working or not?

I can do without a passenger seat, and I'm having trouble finding a replacement driver seat.

Thanks.

I've had a few other car and truck seats in the past with broken frames. Generally it's just a couple spot welds that let go, but it can leave a seat feeling floppy! It's actually pretty easy to do what you suggested: Remove from the vehicle, carefully remove the upholstery and the foam, then re-weld the broken spot welds. If needed, you can add a little extra metal as required to make weak areas stronger. There are videos on youtube on repairing broken seat frames (maybe not jeep, but other cars). Once welded up, you'll be surprised how firm the seat will feel again!

It's about a 1.5 to 3 hr job if you have a welder. Quicker than the time it'll take you to get a new one that matches. If you don't have a welder, lean on one of your buddies who does.

Good luck!

Although I AM down to a svelt 287Lbs, broken seats are nothing new here. Even with my moderate welding skills I find it pretty easy to just gas weld where it's broken. If you just separate anything that could burn from the broken metal, about any shop could weld it in minutes, maybe even a muffler shop! A plus is the welds are normally stronger than it was before.
