i say go for it all the way who cares what other people say if you wanna build it and fab it all up go for it more power to you just take alot more pictures so we know whats goin on!!
im all for seeing how it turns out!
everyone i know has givin me a butt load of crap about my tire size on my vehicles i had a stock for ranger and i shoved 32s under it looked awesome but was crammed
and my xj is runnun 33s with a 3 inch lift and trimmin
bigger tires are cool to have

I have that same set of drop bracket and 7.5" of lift with 35s. You will def need sway bars if you plan on driving it on the street. Even with a front sway bar mine is a hand full before and after the axle swap and I run OTK steering. Doubt the front bearings on will hold up very long with the 42s and plan on a lot off offset because you will need the width to offset the height when cornering. My trackwidth is 80" and can still be scary at 55mph in a turn.
Well I missed the 2wd part. I personally would make that 4x4. Sway bars I don't like eather. As for steering I plan full hydro its just easyer but it is a give and take. Let me restate though mine is off road only! I have a pretty little 99 with 31s and a 3in for a dd that my old lady wheels. She isn't hard core enuf or dumb enuf to brake much. Soon when her confidence grows ill have to build her one of her own. She turns a wrench a little but has no time.
i havent had a front or rear sway bar on this jeep in a long time, but im considering putting the front back on.the steering im gonna swap out to either rugged ridge steering or rustys otk kit.im already making a steering box brace for inside and outside the frame rail out of 1/4 in plate, and im gonna run a crossbar to the pass. side framerail. i think i might keep it 2wd,and go with 38 14.50 17 or 40 13.50 17 goodyear mtr's on 17 x 9 wheels that are only available in 4.50 or 2.50 backspacing,i havent decided on the backspacing yet, suggestions would be helpful.and as far as the ride goes it is a little stiff at times.
I say the person with the jeep is still a 'tard.
you do NOT lift a 2wd vehicle this high. it's just not done. hell, pre-runners don't get lifted very high either. sure, they're 2wd and sure, they get 14" travel, but that's not all from t he lift so much as the clearancing.
I have to disagree with aaron (brutalxj) on this. 12" is NOT acceptable. not without running at least full width axles...and even at that, I'd actually make the full widths WIDER so that I can keep my COG in tune with WB and TW.
btw, if you can't decipher what COG, WB, and TW mean, get the hell out of the hobby, because you're probably just as dumb as someone who thinks 12" lift with short arms is OK, much less that 12" lift at all is OK on an xj.
FYI, those of you who know me know that I don't bash someone unless they qualify as an idiot....and the OP here fits the bill. Gotta love CF re-re's

because there is no solid steering link. if you have a leak, you lose all steering, and go straight. that and unless you like bumpsteer, you need to triangulate your links and do away with a trackbar, which is very difficult on an xj with an engine being in the way and whatnot.
you are putting way too much time, money and thinking into this.
and rugged ridge and rustys are garbage for small tires and a reasonable lift height nevermind 12" and 40's.
you will have severe tie rod roll and a dead spot in the steering.
if you want to go fast, a nice suspension with a light 33-35'' tire is ideal
if you want do wheel, you needs 4wd
if you want the high school girls to laugh at you while cruising around the mall getting hassled by the polizia, carry on

I am new to all of this but i sure as hell don't loose sight that others will be in my position when i get into this hobby further.
sorry for this as my very first post but i am tired of seeing people who THINK they are better than others just because they know (or think they do) a little more than others.
I say go for it. I myself am getting my 95 jeep ready for some 30's so i can do some light trail riding (and to make it look better). Have fun with your project.
so your saying that if i don't understand this (which I do) i can't be in this hobby? WTF!? Don't be so ignorant and stupid by forgetting that at one point in time you didn't know (censored) about this stuff either. So take it easy on people who don't know and remember you too were "dumb" at one point.

when someone knows they have a dumb idea, admits that it's not typical and that almost everyone else in the community is going to call it crap, because that's what it is, then they need to get a grip and get the heck out of here.
fact is, 12" lift on an xj with the stock uniframe and short arms, with or without drop brackets, is unsafe.
this whole thread was created just to start crap. the project (if it's even the OP's...which I'm calling BS on this thread right now because there have been several "fire-burning" threads on 4x4 forums so far) was done for the sole reason of inspiring people to criticize the OP.
maybe I'm @$$uming that, but fact is I can't trust the OP to tell me what's going on because this is all just too much stupid going around for me to even think, for one instant, that it's real.
he's an idiot. it's a bad idea. newbs need not even look @ this kind of crap because, as the saying goes, "you can't fix stupid"...the end result of this CRAP being posted online is that some other common-sense-deficient person is going to get some not-so-bright idea to lift their jeep this high.
this thread should be locked and cleaned up to nothing but the pics and the original post. then we'll see if the person fesses up to the BS, or just keeps it as a build thread. it's obvious (if this is real) that he doesn't want our opinions...so why bother dealing with them?
JeepCoMJ i think you should be locked and cleaned up.... people dont need you coming on the site and calling them idiots and you telling them how much better and smarter you are than them. no its not a great idea for the huge lift, but if you have something to say like that.... than why dont you just hit the back button and go to some other thread. bashing people is not needed here............
hey jeepcomj if you got a problem with my jeep or my idea in the first place then thats your problem.im not an idiot, but i think you are for the way you are bashing me.newbie or not im entitled to do whatever i want with my jeep, and i think its disgraceful the way you are acting.oh and by the way i do know what center of gravity, track width, and wheel base are.and i dont need you to make fun of my jeep cuz you dont own it.i never thought one simple question would start so much BS!anyway clean and lock yourself up
