I have a 98 cherokee sport with a straight 6. The compressor seized up and burnt the belt off. I can't afford a new one right now. Can I reroute with a shorter belt? If so, does anyone have a diagram or belt size for that?

just get a belt for a non ac equiped jeep cherokee 97-99

just get a bypass pully cause the routing is different and i dont think that it will all work right, save the pain and get a bypass pully you can get it from autozone

Autozone told me they only had a bypass pulley for the righthand drive Mail jeeps.....which mounts differently than the left hand drive engine.

Yeah, if anyone knows of a supplier that sells the bypass pully, please post. I've been looking for one for a year.

when i got stranded up north due to my ac compressor seizing up, i called napa, autozone, and advanced auto. all of them said no such thing as a shorter belt to bypass AC and that you need an AC bypass pulley. Each of those stores said that it was a dealer only part and that i would need to call a jeep dealer. Of course the time was nearing 6pm on a sunday so the dealer was closed and all the auto stores were about to close also.
ended up finding an ac bypass pulley that autozone had that would MAYBE work. It only fit on the front 2 mounting holes where the ac compressor went and i had to shim it up with a lot of washers and also shim the pulley itself OUT so the belt wouldnt fly off of it. I still havent gotten around to fixing it the right way, but it got me home and i still drive on it. I do worry a bit because its just mounted by 2 bolts and the belt isnt exactly in line with where it should be haha.
in short... no bypass belt and you need an AC bypass pulley
