can you drill a hole on that part of the firewall for it to suck air for that lil compartment where the wiper come out of on the xj,, between the hood and the windsheild... whats under there.? and do we have space there.? can we drill a 2.5" hole there.?

if anyone could answer those that will be great,,

to the right of the steering column below the window on the drivers side firewall. I have seen a couple people run it through there, but personally i wouldnt do that i would just snorkel.

make sure you seal it off very well otherwise you will be getting a lot of heat in the cab. additionally you may want to thing of where your going to suck the air from so that you dont suck water in.

even there, i would venture to say a lot of water would get sucked in from that route.

yeah, I probably im going to seal the front of the air box (there is a hole there) and then make a hole in the back of the box to throw a garden hose from the air box to the hole Ill be making on the firewall and seal that up good.. all that if it is possible to drill there and do that,,

I have an 88 xj but if I remember right under the cowling (below the
wipers) has about the same amount of open space. Yes you can pull air from there but it also supplies fresh air (or vent air) to the cab. The smell of gas fumes is also possible if the compartments aren't segregated. Here is a pic of mine....if it will help.
