Default Camshaft? HELP

Hey guys, I'm new to the Jeeping community but I'm looking to pick up a cheap project jeep and i found one for a pretty good price but the camshaft has a groove in it and the bearings went out and it needs a new oil pump. Are these things fixable? or did he just beat the crap out of it and is now trying to get rid of it? any help or recommendations are appreciated.

If it's that bad, you're looking at a rebuilt engine or a junkyard replacement.

Could you just replace the camshaft? or do you have to do a complete rebuild?

At the very least since your replacing the cam you would also be replacing bearings and lifters. If the cam is scored then there is a very good chance your main bearings dont look too healthy either. If your going that far into the engine then do it right and have it fully rebuilt of just replace it.

It would be hard to believe the camshaft is FUBAR yet the other internals are pristine.

It's a 1996 5.2L V8 that's in there right now. Do I need to get the 1996 5.2 L V8? Or can I get different years to switch out the engine?

There was a 2.8, V6 in 86. ???. Anyway normally the computer needs to match the engine. (PCM in 96).

You can fit quite a few different motor/trans combos in there with the right adapter:
