Default CAI, i don't get it

I understand the physics and that the cold air expands more for more powerful combustion, but...

Where im seeing these CAIs, they are getting the air from the same place as the stock air box. How is it getting colder, or where is the benifit from the hardware coming from?

It doesnt really provide any benefit if it doesn't have a shield to block it off from the rest of the underhood area. If it is just a tube and filter it will be pulling hot air from under the hood.
As far as where it gets the cool air from the stock location mainly. I understand that area can be opened up a bit. On sport trucks/cars you can route the intake tubes down below the bumper, but on an off road rig you dont want that. You could route a snorkel but would want it to be wide enough diameter as not to choke the engine. I have also heard the distance the air travels has an effect on performance as well.

Just get a snorkle and get true CAI for your jeep..most of the setups I have seen aren't what I would consider efficient CAI..

Not ture I do not have a heat sheild around my cone filter and i got a boost in power after I installed it. Now im sure if I did have a heat shield i would get even more power but as of right now i dont have one

Your naturally going to get a little boost in power when upgrading to a "CAI" or "SRI" due to the fact that you are pouring in the extra air. The problem with most folks setups is that they have the filter less than a foot from the engine that puts out mucho heat. Do like these guys said. Setup a snorkel kit that guarantees cool air and ensures you don't pull in water when mud runnin.

snorkels are too long to provide a good CAI performance wise... the air slows down in those tubes. the cowl intake on MADXJ's site is pretty good, just use a 3" ID tube.

ahh yeah I did that bot with 3 1" tubes..

https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/new-air-box-mod-887/

ive always wonder what if you get water in that pocket? I know rain water will drain in time.. but never have gone it too deep

I have been thinking of redoing mine, like yours.. for a while now..

i dont know how i feel about that.... thats not nearly enough volume...

did you seal off the front on the stock airbox?

and what pocket? the cowl has a drain from the factory since its where the HVAC intake is stock.. i lose my HVAC if i stomp on it or downshift uphill.
