Default A/C R12 adapters for air conditioner fittings

I'm looking at my '89 cherokee and it has 2 different size a/c fittings, but my a/c charging gauges have only 1 type, and the guy at the local Napa has no idea why/where to get one, am I doing something really silly, or where do I get the adapters? I have a full jug of R12 ready to go and it's really hot here now. I have access to another set of gauges, and they don't have the right fittings on them either.

Someone may have tried to "retro-fit" r134 on there which is a bad idea cause r134 wont work on r12 as they use different oil. Put the original r12 fitting on there and have all the old stuff sucked out (don't just let it out, it has to be done right to work right) and then put the right oil and freon in there and if you have no leaks (lots of jeeps leak around the o rings) you should be good to go but definitely get the old stuff out first...Tj

Are your fitting for an r134 system or an r12 system? If you can take a picture of the Jeep fittings, I can tell you what they are.

R12, here's a photo:

the gauges I have fit the 7/16" diameter one, but not the smaller one, so I guess maybe I just need an adapter for the smaller one. Also, which one is the high/low pressure?
