Default a/c problems HELP

I have a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0. The a/c stopped working a neighbors son (a mechanic) put in a compressor. I took it to a shop to have it charge, and they said I have a leak. Turns out the clutch fuse was blown. Replaced the clutch switch, 15A fuse is still blowing.
Thanks, Don

I am assuming you have a new clutch with that new compressor?

Well, the short story is that you need to find your short. The wire is going to ground somewhere. Since it is only happening when the compressor is activated, it is probably between your selector and the compressor

Disconnect the clutch and turn on the ac. Use a volt meter to check for voltage. If you don't blow a fuse, the short is not in the harness. The check the resistance of the coil itself (still disconnected). If it's Zero (or real close to it), the coil is shorted. I don't know what the reading should be if it's good. If it's infinity, it's an open circuit (not in your case since it's blowing fuses).

Also, this is the XJ forum. You may get better advice from the WJ forum here: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f5/
