it goes to the defrost and the floor and will almost do the front vents. They said the vacuum door inside the dash was broken, 125 dollar part + 500 labor for taking the dash in and out

If you don't have the tools or inclination to do the job, it makes sense - you can't run around Texas without AC any more than Michigan w/o heat. It would drive me looney to pay $500 to a dealer for the work. Of course, spending money at all drives me looney.

I'm also amazed they would have the service part for a '97.
