Just in case its the evaporator core. I am taking it to my mechanic to see if he can locate the leak and maybe it wont be but just worse case scenario.

A reputable shop can find leak with out taking anything apart . On your part a small leak say 1 can of Freon every year is hardly worth freaking out over .Jm2cw
Not necessarily true. The only way to directly pinpoint a leak is with a dye test. Since the evaporator is in the enclosed HVAC box in the dash, there is no way to visually inspect it without taking the whole dash out. You could determine that if it's losing refrigerant and there are no leaks at any of the other components that it's the evaporator by process of elimination, though.
Most of the dismantling is pretty self-explanatory. I did my HVAC system last year after an evap leak. Taking out the seats made everything much easier. I didn't have to pull the steering column, and was able to swivel the dash off without entirely removing it, which is a plus.
I would advise that you not take apart the dash until you're mostly sure it's the evaporator. It's a HUGE job, and takes a long time.

Just to say its hasn't been called freon since r-12 was available its just refrigerant or r 134a there's a few ways to check first if you have access to manifold gauges can you tell us the hog side and low side pressures and ambient to see if there's enough refrigerant in the system or I much tho can use a sniffer to find leaks but due is much more efficient to find leaks a simple way is to visual look around all fittings and connections look for a little oil and feel around with your hands if there's residue that's a goo indicator of a leak the most common ac problems are low charge or air and moisture it's best to have a shop look and Diagnose the ac system good luck though
