When I replaced my heater core last fall I just had a local repair shop de-charge my system and recharge it when I was done with the install. They charged me $65 for the two visits and I didn't have to worry about doing it correctly. At that price it was worth it to me. I use Rock Auto for all my multi-part orders (that's where I got my heater core) and it's usually cheaper than the local parts stores; even with the shipping. If you're getting one or two things, it might not yield a big cost savings.

The only thing I see that was left out are the HVAC enclosure seals. Mine is a '97, so I can't say for older models, but it's a mandatory purchase. What sucks is that ONLY Mopar carries it and it's $60 for the three seals. If you skimp on getting this, you'll be repairing your passenger side floor pan in the future.

if i ordered a new liquid line from rock auto, will it have the new orifice tube already installed? Also, how many bolts holding the HVAC?

 

pretty sure it made in the cant get out to replace

 

Yep, on the XJ, orifice tube is "built-in" the liquid line.

 

Alright thanks. Thats all I can think of. I'm going to start ordering parts. I'm still unsure about the compressor. I remember when it turn on, the noise goes away.
