The A/C compressor on my 92 is a bit loud. The noise is always there even when the a/c is on and the compressor cycles. It sounds like a dry bearing, but no squeaking ,more of a hum noise.

I know on the pre 96?? You can easily remove the clutch portion of the compressor. Now my question is, if it makes the noise all the time do you think it would be the clutch? Rock auto sells a bearing and they list it as a compressor bearing, its a wide bearing . Not sure if this bearing goes in the clutch or the compressor housing itself. Anyone that did one of these could you please chime in.

Its a pretty loud noise, can hear it in the cab with a flowmaster exhaust
Recently replaced the idler pulley and alt and P/s pump so those are rulled out. I do need a new fan clutch, but its always made this noise even when everything was tight

 

If it us noisy all the time, it's prolly the clutch bearing. Take the belt off and move the comp clutch to see if it feels rough. Good luck
