A/C COMPRESSOR
Hi guys, when i switch the A/C on, the compressor kicks in and blows cold for about 15/20 minutes, then it makes a klunck noise as the clutch runs for a few seconds then cuts out, then cuts in again for a few seconds then cuts out, is this normal compressor operation on the xj, mine is a 2000 4.0ltr.
if not, is this the compressor giving up?
Gary.

It's normal for the AC clutch to cycle on and off.. if the cycling is excessive and/or it's not cooling efficiently, it could mean it's low on freon. When the system is too low on freon, a pressure switch kicks off the compressor. This is designed to protect the compressor from damage. I'd check the freon level.

Thank you for the information, that may explain the lack of cold air after a period of time, will have the system checked as soon as possible, ie after payday.
