First, I would like to say thank you to all the helpful people on this forum.
Now for my problem.
I have a 2000.5 xj with the 4.0 and every since I got it I (knowingly) baught it with a bad ac compressor. I found out later that it was seized, and apon further investigation noticed the belt was very loose. so I tightened the best a good deal and tried the ac. It made a loud screach then a thud. and for a few weeks then the ac worked perfectly. after the snow melted I tried the ac to make sure it worked for the spring and it worked for about 10-15 minutes then blew warm air outr the vents.\
I now found that the compressor clutch will not engage and neither does the electric fan (works when the engine gets hot). The other thing I also knew when I bought the jeep is the freon leaked slowly. so I thought it was low. It only took about a half can. My dad and I tried jumpering the sensor and even then the clutch will not engage. so now what?
sorry for the long post but I wanted to give as much info as I know.

Sounds like a smoked bearing on the compressor belt pulley, take off the little nut on the front of the compressor and the center shield should pry off very easily and you'll probably see a bunch of ball bearings on the bottom all chewed up.... Just went thru the same thing on our 98, new compressor from NAPA rebuilt was $242

But would that cause the clutch not to engage?
