Default Battery drain please help!!

99 xj 4.0

A/c clutch circuit short

Hi everyone. I'm having an issue with a parasitic draw of .3 amps when the vehicle is parked.

I found that when I remove the fuse pictured. I believe its fuse 11. The amp draw goes away.

This fuse is energizing the pictured relay I belive it is the A/C clutch relay.

I have included the schematic. I'm not the most familiar with automotive schematics.

Not sure where the relay coil is getting power. Maybe a bad ignition switch??

cheers!

The schematic

The fuse

The relay

First, what manual are you using? It doesn't look like the factory one. Haynes or Chilton perhaps?

Next, the first pic is your Power Distribution Center (PDC). The fuse your pointing at is #2 (40a) and goes to the ignition switch. So you may be on to something.

Your second pic appears to be the Junction Block (JB). The black relay you're pointing at is for the cigar lighter.

Before you do anything else, go here: https://cruiser54.com/?page_id=365

Download the factory service manual.

Default Fuse

When i plug in the fuse it energises that relay. I unplugged the cigarette lighter. No change. Im going to unplug the ignition and see if that makes a difference. Im trying to sift throught that manual to find what i need.

Means Ignition - Accessory/Run position. The lighter relay is energized in both positions. Then Fuse #2 in the JB sends power to the lighter once the relay closes.

You're on the right track. Do you have any kind of aftermarket alarm, radio, aux lights? Is there anything plugged into the power outlet?

With the key off (and out) and all doors closed (interior lights off), headlights, parking lights, flashers all off, there will be some current draw. Things like the radio clock, keyless entry system (if you have one) and any kind of alarm (even a factory one) will still draw some power.

Go to Cruiser54's website (he's a moderator here) and get the FSM for your year.

https://cruiser54.com/?page_id=365

Section 8W has the wiring diagrams.

I have the radio and the cigarette lighters unplugged and it still has a .4 amp draw.

You say fuse 2 sends power through the relay not to the coil.
thats what it looks like on the schematic.

That fuse is energizing the coil when I plug it in.
Am i missing somthing or is that supposed to happen.

If not there is a short from fuse 2 to the coil?

Glove box light staying on? Don't laugh, I've seen that a number of times.

Default Attention!! Found the problem

It was the ignition. The cylinder is worn out. The key comes out in any position. There is no indication what position the key is in when you remove it. The plastic cover over my column is painted so if there was writing its gone.

So essentially when you turn the key fully counter clockwise it is in the ACCESSORIES POSTION. NOT OFF POSITION. You need to turn the key one click back clockwise to be in the off position.

I also found a person with the same issue I have. Here's a link.
https://www.jeepforum.com/threads/ba.../#post-1153478

I found the replacement ignition cylinder on Amazon here's a link.

Dorman 924-784 Mechanical Key Relearn Ignition Lock Cylinder Compatible with Select Models (OE FIX) https://a.co/d/1t7noOc

Im not getting rid of the jeep for a very long time.

So if you see a post from me drop in and give me your two cents.

Thanks,
GOD BLESS!
