Can't do it..... must get the A/C bypass pully off of a jeep that didn't come equipped with A/C. Something about stuff turning the wrong way if you just bypass it.

NAPA and I'm pretty sure all parts stores sell the bypass pully. And rockauto.com has it for twenty something bucks I think.

If the compressor pulley is just freewheeling, it's not consuming any more power than a bypass pulley.

Agreed on the free-wheeling but he said it leaks so he probably wants to pull it out to get rid of the mess.

Not sure why you want to remove it completely. Two reasons one if you drive in winter the AC helps with defrost. Two, it is a little pain to just remove it. If it leaks, it will leak out and nothing more will come of it. It will just sit there and be bored while you have fun. I mean, unless you have nothing else better to do, personally I would rather play a game of COD verse pulling out something that doesn't matter.

If it has a leak and there is no pressure in the system, it will not help with the defrost. Also, if the system has no pressure, the clutch SHOULD not engage anyways due to a built in safety feature to prevent compressor from being damaged/ seizing up due to lack of oil. Refridgerant has oil added to it and if there is no refridgerant, there is no oil. No oil will cause seized compressor. But yes, the compressor pully will spin freely as long as the clutch is not engaged thereby not inducing a load on the motor.

Ripping out the A/C components doesn't take long and isn't hard, I just did it a couple weekends ago. Takes a couple hours if you take your time.

Like said above, grab a bypass pulley off rockauto.com and you're good to go

Haven't had my AC in over 4 years. Defrost works just fine with the heater. Maybe takes a little longer to deal with the condensation. And without the evap core, it seems to run cooler in the summer.

In PA with plenty (well not this year) of snow.
