Bypassing heater core on 99 xj

Default Bypassing heater core on 99 xj

So I'm planning to bypass the heater core. Do I just unplug both heater hoses and connect them together at the firewall?

Also, do I need to burp the system or is this not necessary on a non renix open system? If I do, how do you burp it?

Just hook the hoses together and you're done.

A 90 degree 3/4" X 5/8" fitting from the parts store makes the bypass really easy. We carry one in the glove box in case of an emergency.

Does anyone have any pics of a bypass on a 97+ ?

I'm reading mixed info online of if burping is required to get the air out on a open cooling system (1991 and newer???). Will air get trappedby removing hoses?

Must be the year for heater cores to go out....

If you are concerned with air bubbles, just take the radiator cap off and run the jeep for a bit to circulate the coolant and it will get the air out.

When the motor is cold (after a heat/cool cycle), remove the radiator cap. If coolant is full up in the neck of the rad, system has "burped". If not, add coolant. Check again after another heat/cool cycle.
