Default Bypassing Clockspring

Is it possible to hook my cruise control up completely bypassing the clockspring? I tried what I thought would work . . . the Jeep died so I'm looking for someone with some experience in this area.

1998 XJ Sport.

Why would you want to do that? Why not fix it correctly?

I'd like to relocate the controls. Simple as that. So any ideas?

There are 2 ways to do it (theoretically):
1. If you can relocate CC switches somewhere on dashboard.
2. If you make "spring" outside steering column.
If clockspring is bad, air bag doesn't work, which is much more important than CC.
97-01 clocksprings with CC go on ebay for about $100

I was wanting to relocate the CC switches to where ashtray is. Not a tranditional location I know but I got the idea stuck in my head and it's growing on me. I guess all I really need is a wiring diagram but like I said earlier . . . I connect black to black, color to color, and the jeep died lol. Took a while to get it back too . . . I was nervous

How CC switches work:
each button has a resistor, so CC "senses" resistance.
Only 2 wires go to CC switches through spring clock.

Well . . . that's what I thought! I'll take a picture tomorrow and show you guys what I'm talking about. I just did a down and dirty rigging to check concept and it should have worked . . . definitely did not.

Hello
any luck with bypassing the clock spring for cruise control? I am interested in relocating as well! Maybe an old wagoner steering wheel as well 🤔
