Buying first Jeep tomorrow, need some help with a transmission problem.
'95 Jeep Cherokee Sport, 4.0 inline 6, 4 door, 4 wheel drive, automatic transmission.
The guy said it will not shift on its own from a stop, he has to physically bump it up through the gear positions. He also said that once it is in drive and you are rolling it is fine, and that he has been driving it this way for two years.
Is this a simple thing to fix or am I getting into something that is going be a lot of work?
Any advice will help, thanks everyone!

Sounds like when my throttle position sensor went out. It would go straight to the highest gear available per the shifter setting as soon as I took off from a stop. Once I replaced the TPS it shifted fine again. Mine is a Renix system, but I assume the DC systems act the same.
