Default Burning smell

So I've replaced the belt, alt (w a used one, no other choice), water pump... And occasionally I get a burnin smell as if its from the belt but not 100% sure. The bel looks great, but I suspect it to be the pulleys or the alt. Should I replace all (pulleys and alt) !?! And any types for a 90's inline 6? To keep her tip top?

Thanks guys/gals for lookin

Do you have any oil leaks? The oil could be dripping down onto your exhaust pipes. My 89 does this and when I'm not moving. I have a burning smell.

Check and see if oil from your oil filter adapter is leaking out and running down onto your exhaust.. I know mines got that problem.

Commonly they leak oil at the oil filter adapter housing and/or the valve cover and it drips off the cross member onto your exhaust. Ask me how I know. Lol

Try simply tightening your valve cover bolts. You will probably find most of them are loose. Especially the ones toward the rear of the motor. The old filter adapter on the other hand you will need to go to Chrysler and get the o ring kit. Which is only a couple bucks and an easy job

You would be surprised I mean I'm not saying it's not your rear main seal but sometimes the leak starts up at the vc and runs down there. My old zj leaked something awful. I thought for sure it was the rear main seal so I replaced it. Still leaked. Come to find out the vc bolts were so loose you could take them out by hand. Did a vc gasket tightened them down correctly and the burning/leak was gone.

The first thing is what does it smell like? Does it smell like burning oil or like burning rubber? They do smell different. That's the first thing we really need to know. If it smells like oil I would say like everyone else is. But if it smells like burning rubber it would be something completely different.

My burning smell comes from a leaking oil seal which drips onto my u-joint which is the flung onto my exhaust. You could check that

Step one: remove foot from gas pedal.
Step two: replace your rear tires. They are probably shot.

Then you've probably got a connector/wiring melting in the dash.

No.. I'm pretty sure its the oil. I'll be replacing the oil pan gasket this weekend including the header too. Electrical smell is very unique also compared to an oil, or rubber smell.
