So my friend is sadly selling his jeep. I'd love to have it but I cant have 2 xj's going to college
. I also don't want to be a (EDIT by MOD: Theres a reason we have word filters, do not bypass them) and start begging for parts, but I really want his front bumper, its a real nice one. Problem is he is 98 and I'm 96. If I bought his bumper he would need my stock one to sell it. So should the swap work, ideally with no modifications?

bumper molding is a little bit different between stock 96 and 98, but will bolt up none the less.
you may be better off hitting up a junkyard for a stock front bumper and end caps for a 98.

Wow, I really hate being censored. I "*" half of the word, which wasnt offensive. Youd think in an online community based around a topic (the xj and offroading) that is made of up 95% adults wouldnt have senseless rules like that. But hey i guess it is the thought that counts...ironically more so when you dont want to. And yes his bumper is after market and he would sell it to me if mine would fit directly so it would only be a 30 min job. He needs to sell it quick. no time for a junk yard run.

The place to disscuss this would be replying to the PM that i dispatched to you, but since you want to do so in public..
It's in the rules that you didnt read and agreed to when you registered on this forum. If you dont like the rules or dont want to abide by them your free to go somewhere else that allows them... not ignore them and do as you please.
BTW.. you "*" a single letter.. a 5 year old could figure out what you wrote.. which is the whole point. This is a family friendly site. 99% of us here have no issue with it.

Well said. My 12 and 10 year-old kids are often looking over my shoulder...especially when I'm looking at Jeep sites.

ok, so the long and short of it is, yes, it will fit and bolt up no problems, but it will not look stock for that model year.
so, if he's ok with it, then do it.

Seems like a little common sense could figure this out...
Either,
A. Find out what bumper it is and look it up
or
B. 99% of front bumpers are listed as 84-01 anyway.
Edit:
Realized this is more about the stock bumper fitment.
But unless he's selling it at 6am, you could pull a junkyard bumper by the time it takes to get the other 2 off.
