Is it common when making a bumper change or modification to lose your airbags? My stock bumper has been modified abd my airbag light stays on now. Anyone else have this issue? Im a PRE AIRBAG driver anyway so I dont care if they work or not but was just curious.

on my 95 DD i installed a mild after market front bumper and not more than a month or 2 ago i clipped the end of a semi trailer while sliding through a stop sign, airbag still went off... the airbag "sensor" or trigger device is from what i would now figure after being in the accident, its not on/in/attached to the bumper its somewhere else

Some models have air bag sensors in the bumper while others have G-force sensors in the engine compartment. It really depends on year, air bag manufacturer, trim package, and whether or not the vehicle was classified as an emergency vehicle. police packages have G-force sensors due to the fact they often use their bumpers as rams. Airbag light often indicates a bad ground or short in the sensor harness. not a big issue if you dont mind a sudden explosion in your face. Air bags have been known to malfunction and go off due to a power to ground short or a static electric charge is present. have it repaired or have it removed by a shop.
