Hockey pucks and stock uppers work just fine. On the rear I used some 1" square tubing and made spacers and put them between my stock bump stop and frame

Use the hockey pucks back there too alien. They just need a broader base to mount to the frame/unibody back there. Use a couple pieces of scrap 1/4" plate about 4" square, or a couple pieces of 3" angle iron. Either will work.

No that is what I did on the 96 that I sold to my huntin' buddy before we left Georgia. Those OEM ones were rotten like yours are alien. Sry no pics. Didn't even have a camera at the time we did the 2WD to 4WD conversion and BB on that Jeep.
You can make something like this out of steel:

Make a plate that bolts onto the u-bolts along with the u-bolt plate, or a new u-bolt plate with extension on the side as the picture shows. You can stack plates or hockey pucks on it to your desired height/stopping distance.
