close 1pluck. Any lift over 3" you need new LCAs. Any lift over 5" you need UCAs as well

Anyone ever modify the 2.5 4 cyl. engine? I have one in my 1985 and its gutless to say the least! I've been told they can be tweeked to get alot more power than what stock puts out, but don't know what to have done that would be worth the money spent.

What are you doing with it, and what is your goal? Mileage, rock climbing, more fun oomph? Depending on how much you have to spend, how much work you want to do, and where you live you might be able to find an I6 that can be run carburated or get the wiring harness with it and update the whole thing.
On my 75 LUV i noticed quite a bit more pep putting a Weber carb in it. Dont have any experience with XJ four bangers, but if I had one I would not feel any apprehension about tgrowing one in.
I understand a new cam can wake up any engine, but youd have to consult a guru. This is another case where knowing what other vehicles run the same engine can be helpful. The ZJ V8 is used in some Dodge vehicles and some dodge forums have a little more info about ungrades than we do, as only some ZJs had them and few other Jeeps.
Just some thoughts, incase no one else posts.

My 96 xj has fold in side mirrors. Its an SE model. They are not fixed. There are also some really great helpful tools and interesting ideas on this website: http://www.go.jeep-xj.info/index.htm

Well having no front sway bar can make the ride a little sketchy but some ppl don't run them and love it. I personally run no rear swaybar and have quick discos for the front. As far as your leaf springs go do you have longer shackles or blocks? And how many leafs are in the pack? Chicken wire sounds bad lol I would ditch that and get some leaf clamps. They are pretty cheap
There are four leafs in each pack abd yeah..... chicken wire, ill upload a pic. Looks like stock u bolts to me and no blocks and definantly no spacers up front. I think i definantly need to do a T-case drop from what im reading here because i have a decent amount of clunking at my feet. Maybe u Joints too? give me like an hour on those pics, my girl took the jeep to the store

people can correct me if i am wrong, but doesn't a normal cherokee Leaf pack have 5 springs? where one can be taking out, i think, for a difference in ride or something?
Yeah, post us a pic, because other than the chicken wire, you may have one of those crazy PO fab jobs... lol

it's obviously a bastard back leaf spring - most likely with s10 leafs if he's sitting that high.
