Alrighty, so I got a set of 87-96 Dodge Dakota Leafsprings with 4 in lift for 234 even. already bought it. Should I have an easier time with these new spring than making a bastard pack? I am assuming, at best, I would need to cut the eyes off the top leaf and attach the jeep one. Would that be a good deal?
You should have checked into this one better before buying them...sorry but it won't work, nor should you try to make it work - it's a recipe for disaster.

Springs for 4" lift on a Dakota? That's going to be crazy tall on an XJ man (like...8+ inches). The stock XJ main spring will NOT be able to take the kind of bending stress those dakota lift springs will put on it, and there is no way to bolt the dakota springs up directly - they'll be too long and the axle won't be centered.

I'm not. I'm doing this as we speak...with STOCK dakota springs you net 4" on an XJ, and the XJ main spring is screaming just from that. Those dakota lift springs will net over 8" and basically snap that main spring in half from the imparted stresses.

Thanks, but I have to agree with CDAwall I was planning on cutting the eyes off the top leafs, and pulling a few leafs, pretty much bastard packing it, but using mostly Dakota springs. I see where the extra lift comes in as over the top too much lift scenario, and I appreciate that heads up. But shouldn't I, by removing some springs, cut it back, and then add the top XJ spring (limiting XJ since they are OOOOLLLDDD!) That way it'll match up, and by taking leafs out, it would reduce said stress on said leafs?

And Dukie, I am not dismissing your concerns, but I think when you red it you thought I was throwing the whole thing on, instead of working with it to get my 4.5-5 inch lift... But thanks for giving me the heads up and advice for it.

Just to clarify, you bought leaf springs designed to lift a Dakota 4"? or stock Dakota springs?
The normal Dakota bastard pack (to yield 4-5" on an XJ) uses the stock Dakota springs (cut) under the XJ main to give the lift (XJ main - Dakota Main (cut) - Dakota 2nd - Dakota 3rd - Dakota 4th). If this is your plan (using stock Dakota leafs), then I misunderstood your first post, sorry.
What I'm worried about is the stock XJ main if you're putting Dakota LIFT springs under it instead of stock Dakota springs. Not only will it be WAY too high for your plans, but the XJ main cannot take that kind of increase in arch, especially if it's old. The dakota springs will (if you can even get the pack tightened down) cause the XJ main spring to bend way beyond it's original arch. The worst case scenario from this is the spring would snap in half - not a good thing if it's the leaf holding the axle to the truck.

Tu Chet, and I know Dukie is one terribly brilliant Cherokee Guru, and reading back... yeah, i said that... kinda mixed what i was saying
. This is what I bought, Title from ebay:
87-96 Dodge Dakota 4WD 4" Rear Lift Leaf Springs Pair
it is, indeed, for lifting said vehicle. I am figuring on bastard packing... however once I get them, i will have to see what I will do. Luckily, I got Commercial Spring about 45 minutes away, so if worst comes to worse, I'll buy a set made for what we are doing. I will be surt to let you guys know what happens, and I really appreciate the advice from both CDAWAll and Dukie. Didn't mean to start a minor Civil War.
I appreciate the work, you guys, and God do I hope I can make it work. Catch phrase for a Jeep guy: Try Try again... Let me know your opinion of the item I bought... LOL

Did you get the right ones? Usually V-8, heavy duty type vehicles, plus depends how much they compressed over time... I actually just bout the Grand Cherokee Springs, part cc782, i believe, brand new. That way I know I wont have to worry bout whatever vehicle they were in.
I was asking because I want to know what condition yours were in, so that we all learn a little something.
Thanks.
