No, it's only like 1/4 - 1/2" per side. I don't remember exactly how much, but you won't notice

Negative. Gas tank changed in 1997. You can use one from a ZJ, though, you'll have to drill new mounting hles through the skid.

so I've seen a lot of info on using a zj front drive shaft in place of an xj rear drive shaft on a lifted xj but I was wondering if there is anything I could use to replace my rear drive shaft since I'm at stock height. I have an np231 and c8.25. Also I'm replacing the leafs soon too and considering 2" OME so is there anything in the junkyard for me from stock to 2"??

you need to have a SYE installed in the transfer case in order to use a front shaft in the rear. After that you would need to measure the distance from yoke to yoke and compare it to this chart:

Code:

XJ 89/93 2.5 Automatic 27.970 53005540

will a TJ front axle bolt under a 99 XJ? What full size axles are direct bolt on, I want to widen it as I beef it & lift it.

A TJ axle will, but it's weaker. No other front axle (besides another Jeep D30) will bolt in

I'm confused, isn't a D35 stronger than a D30? I recently had my ball joints replaced, and during the alignment, they determined that my front axle is slightly bent, not bad enough that they couldn't align it or that you can tell in any way.
So I'm starting to look for a replacement front axle that is 98-99% bolt in, with little or no modification, and that's why I asked about a TJ D35. I'd love to swap a D44 or a toyota axle, but they're hard to find and tend to be pricey.
Any suggestions?
