broken steering bolts
Stopped to aid a fellow Cherokee owner, nose up against the guard rails...all 3 steering bolts snapped
I inspected a broken bolt, it had an old fatigue crack halfway, then a clean snap
this is common, by reading up on it
my SIMPLE idea, replace with 3 bolts new grade 8 ($3.80each), BUT add 1/8 to 1/4 steel plates on either side of uni/chassis leg. bolts are in 1/2" increments
The reason would be to distribute force more evenly away from bolt hole area, and reduce risk of frame cracking.
I wont even bother to weld, as I think just bolting the plates in their will add strength, my max tyre size will be 32"
all comments welcome
