Default Broken rear DS

My only question is how long can I drive with the rear drive shaft off and I'm only using front wheel in 4hi.

i dont know exactly , but my buddy drove like 15-20 miles atleast to get home one day and was fine

its gonna put a lot of miles on your tc. i dont think it was intended to be used like that all the time. i suppose you could do that for a while safely. you must have a sye in order to pull your rear shaft.

Depends on how much trany fluid you loose out the tailshaft,a few miles you will be ok.

when i blew the rear end of my blazer i gutted the rear and drove on the front for about a week before the front ring gear just wore itself smooth... different rigs i know but its a ballpark lol

I drove a 94' cherokee with the 232 T case, auto in 4hi over 80 km (50 miles roughly) at speeds around 65mph. come to think of it wasnt a brilliant idea but i bought it for parts only and it was too cold to try and change a U joint some retarded frenchman buggered up.

I have a sye. And i drove for about a month on just front wheel drive till i could afford the drive shaft for the rear. It would spin really easy. so i had to drive up some long gravel hills in reverse.

Well today I drove my 2000 xj to work...10 mi on highway 3 city with only front wheel in 4hi. And I plan on driving it into the ground so I'll let you know how far I make it.

1996+ use a sealed rear output, so you won't be losing any fluid. realistically, if your front DS is in good shape, you won't have any issues. grease it.

replace the rear shaft though...

Well I made it 900 miles and could have kept going. No leaks front ujoints are good everything is fine. Oh about 600 was on the highway and I did 85 at one point.
