Broken rear axle
My daughters 1998 Grand Cherokee is on the side of the road with what appears to be a broken, drivers side rear axle. Could anyone give me any info on if it's fixable? Thank you
When the jeep is in forward gear, the drive shaft is turning and the left rear wheel is grinding and moving, but not turning. I can see that it is walking in and out alittle. Can i remove the rear cover and remove the axle half that is still in the ring and pinion. Inspect and install the new axle? Just curious before I order any parts.

Could be something in the diff. Busted ring, pinion, spiders. It's usually cheaper just to pickup a used axle off craigslist or the JY with the same gearing.

Jerking like that sounds like spider pull rear cover there pretty easy to swap just hit the junkyard and pull a set and swap them in .Any more damage than that swaping in a donor axle cheapest route
